I won’t repeat this post’s lengthy title because I think it says it all, but as I mentioned in the title, for me one of the joys of reading is that each book can have a unique meaning to each reader.
As a new author, this is possibly one of the most exciting book-things that’s happened so far!
I love the speculation about my main character, Aidan Dunn, put forward by Viviana MacKade‘s blog during my blog tour. I wish I’d thought of it. It’s great!
But as I lie here on my sofa in the unusually hot British sun hoping my sciatic nerve doesn’t get grumpy after I ran 9 miles on it, it has got me thinking ….
Viviana has a point!
Could Aidan represent the dark part of people that they hide? The thoughts and feelings they don’t reveal? Could he represent different things to different people? And if so, which bit of me would he be?
If I had to put a finger on which suppressed part of me he could represent, it would probably be ambition. I gave up being ambitious in my career years ago, channeling it into my writing and running….. But its still there, lurking below the surface. I know it is…. Has it escaped onto paper in the form of Aidan Dunn?
I love this idea and I totally wish I’d intended that consciously …..which opens a whole can of psychological worms for discussion. Brilliant 😁
Viviana’s interpretation, which you can read here, has also reminded me that I’ve totally forgotten what happens in Emma. I have the unfortunate habit of forgetting most books once I’ve read them, which does at least mean that I can read them again and again.
So, that’s some of my holiday reading sorted.
Role on Cape Verde ….
